PROJECT
YELLOWSTONE
The highest performing, most afforable aircraft on the market.
-

Revolutionary Propulsion
We found that every aircraft engine on the market is remarkably expensive and remarkably underpowered, so we built our own. Based around the venerable Mazda rotary engine, Yellowstone’s propulsion gives our first aircraft it’s soul.
-

Radical Affordability
Project Yellowstone is designed to be the most affordable single engine aircraft to operate on a per hour basis, with healthy margin, period. Owner maintainable, gasoline powered, and dead simple - it’s genuinely attainable aviation. Did we mention it’s also high performance?
-

Reliable Safety
Nothing on an aircraft is more impotant than safety. That’s why we’ve baked safety into Yellowstone from day one. With simple, redundant systems architecture, proven propulsion, and a ballistic parachute if all else fails - Yellowstone is designed to deliver you and your passenger safely.
Performance
-Cruise at 250+ kt
-Climb at 5000 fpm
-Maneuver up to 5G’s
-Travel 720+ NM

Build with Us.
When you purchase an Intrepid Aircraft, you are also buying the experience of building 51%+ of your own aircraft with our experienced team of professional aircraft engineers and technicians, at our factory in Denver, CO.
Intrepid Aircraft is not a kit plane company. Over the course of two weeks, we will build, test, and ultimately fly your aircraft, together. We are building our factory with this experience at the forefront of our minds, ensuring that you, the customer, have a fun, easy, and enjoyable build.
Plus, at the end of the experience, not only will you have an aircraft, but you will also know exactly how it went together, how to maintain it, and have the FAA required experience to do so yourself.
Travel…
In your own airplane.
On your own time.
In less time.

Propulsion
Well… at least for an aviation application. By utilizing the venerable Mazda 13B rotary engine, modified and extensively tested for flight, Yellowstone is able to reliably produce dramatically more power for a dramatically lower cost.
-
Our engine is based on a Mazda 13B rotary engine, which is then modified and tuned for flight. We make a number of modifications including upgrading seals, removing unnecessary components, to improve performance and reliability.
This provides a number of key advantages over currently available aircraft powerplants including the ability to utilize cheaper non 100LL fuel, improved reliability, greater part availability, and above all radical performance for an affordable price. -
We have already accomplished full scale testing of our rotor assembly spun by an electric motor to characterize thrust and calibrate our models.
We are currently integrating a Mazda 13B engine we have modified for flight onto a test stand which will be used for static testing as well as in-motion testing at various altitudes.
While we have high confidence in our existing analytical models, this will allow us to appropriately characterize and optimize the propulsion system, including inlets, across a large range of the flight envelope, before our wheels ever leave the ground.
Safety is everything.
-
We aren’t just building another general aviation airplane, we are building the safest airplane.
Our goal is to prevent all of the common mishaps that happen in general aviation such as stalls/spins in the traffic pattern, fuel exhaustion or mismanagement, and even mechanical engine failure.
We want everyone to come back safely from every flight.
-
We use our safety methodology to drive our system design. For instance, we believe that no single point of failure in any of the aircraft systems should allow for a catastrophic consequence.
In most general aviation aircraft, any number of things could break in the engine and cause a complete loss of thrust which is quite often catastrophic when a pilot cannot make a controlled landing when it occurs.
This leads to a requirement to have a way to ensure a safe landing after an engine failure. This drove us to our decision to install a BRS (Ballistic recovery parachute) on the aircraft to ensure you can always have a controlled survivable descent back to the ground.

Genuinely affordable aviation.

Our aircraft is designed to use 100LL (or FAA authorized replacement fuel) or 87 Octane or better gasoline.
This means you have the flexibility to use what the airfield has or fill your aircraft with much more affordable gas from a regular gas station.
We will provide a growing infrastructure at a network of airfields to ensure our owners can operate their aircraft affordably and with the ability to know they can get where they are going.
-
With your repairmen certificate in hand, YOU can do all the maintenance on the aircraft that you are comfortable doing.
You will have been trained to do all of it while you build the aircraft and will all the video tutorial support available to you whenever you need to work on the aircraft.
And more importantly we are here to help with any action you need to work through whether you are doing your conditional inspection or just pre-flighting to go fly home.
-
When you become an owner of one of our aircraft, you become part of our community.
A community dedicated to reinvigorating flying.
A community dedicated to helping each other and spreading the joy and freedom that only flight can provide.
You become a part of the Intrepid family.
